Well, you can do a couple of things, either leave it operational and cozy up on those cold winter nights. There is nothing like a hot cup of cocoa or blueberry tea paired with some wool socks and fire pit to warm the soul. The winter elements will create a beautiful ‘weathered’ patina on the fire pit. Rain and snow will not damage your fire pit, so it is completely safe to leave it open for the winter.

Never cover your fire pit with any kind of plastic protection as this will simply result in mold and mildew – yuck! If you would like to cover your fire pit for the winter we sell fire pit covers made of WeatherMax fabric, with vinyl chafe protection for $125. We recommend these type of covers as they do not support the growth of mold or mildew.

The WeatherMax covers are easy to pull on and off, so keep that cocoa handy whether you cover or not!

Recognize this guy? It is Thomas Edison, the genius behind so many of today’s conveniences including something we all use everyday – the electric light bulb.  The edison light bulb features clean lines, they are elegant and functional, completely in line with our guiding principles of design here at Sticks and Stones Furniture.

Hmmmm…… can we bring the edison light bulb into the ‘fold’ here at Sticks? It appears that we can! We are working on some light fixture designs and even have a few prototypes that feature our favourite material – concrete.

Well here is one more – our burners are now certified as safe by the BC Safety Authority. What does this mean you ask? Well, we worked our way through a large amount of paperwork, our products were reviewed, and our fire pit burners were officially certified as safe for sale in BC.

Just to clarify, our products have always been safe, they are all CSA approved and always have been. Our designs have not changed, all that changed is that we have received a stamp of approval by the BC Safety Authority. Thanks guys!

The BC Safety Authority is an independent, self-funded organization mandated to oversee the safe installation and operation of technical systems and equipment. In addition to issuing permits, licences and certificates, they work with industry to reduce safety risks through assessment, education, enforcement, and research.

As mentioned above, part of the BC Safety Authority mandate is education, so we are doing our part to educate you as consumers. We encourage you to do your research whenever you make a purchase. Our cities are changing, high-density is not just an option anymore it is a necessity. I have watched Vancouver change over the past 20 years. Rambling acreages are a thing of the past, energy efficiency and space efficiency reign supreme these days.

Of course, this is not just a Vancouver thing. We see it all over the world, smart-growth and efficiency is the new world order and I love it! With space and energy at a premium designers have to be smarter. Every centimetre is accounted for, there is no tolerance for wasted space.

We at Sticks and Stones challenged ourselves to come up with some new ‘small space designs’ and I am pretty confident they are a perfect fit for many of our clients. At just 27 inches in diameter our new Mini Luna, and Mini Eclipse can fit just about anywhere.

We placed our first Mini Luna at a clients home in downtown Vancouver last week. Check it out!

If you have visited the Sticks and Stones shop over the past two months you may have noticed something a little different out front – a full moon fire pit that was slowly rusting.

This particular fire pit is made of corten, a group of steel alloys designed to develop a stable rust-like finish if left outside. The great thing about corten is that products made with this steel alloy rust but only to a stable degree. This rust-like finish does not erode the product, and once established, the finish does not require any maintenance.

We are in love with the look of corten, and the ease of care. Literally place outside and let it get beautiful! We are thrilled to now offer our full moon fire pit in corten. Give us a call to discuss!
